Updates to the Family room and library

We have been playing musical furniture for sometime now. I was not happy with the leather furniture and wanted to try out the Ektorp from Ikea in white (someday to upgrade to Pottery Barns slipcovered sofas). We found the sofa on craigslist in red with the matching foot stool for $270 back in January. Even though I ordered a white sofa cover and a light brown cover for the footstool it still saved us $130.99 plus tax and the gas to drive to Michigan (3 hours from home). We weren’t sure we would like the sofa so getting it off craigslist for cheap was ideal. We moved the 2 Jennylund chairs from the library into the family room after hanging the TV and put the sofa in there while we decided if we liked it or not. Once we decided it was what we wanted I started saving to go to Michigan and pick up the loveseat. Here is what the family room looks like now.
*Note: I can’t stand that half wall thing and it will come out when we put in wood floors.
002
Some of the artwork is up but I have not yet finished it all. The end table next to the loveseat is probably going to go black soon.
003
I made all of the pillow covers myself with fabric from Joann’s and I covered that small ottoman as well (it’s just a cheapo $20 ottoman that Marisa has and no longer wants or needs). The window panels are from Ikea.
004
We still have 2 Jennylund chairs in here until we go back in a few months and get the Ektorp chairs. I also made the 2 petal pillows in the chairs. Please excuse my messy kitchen in the background and the shoes in the next picture, just keeping it real folks. Open-mouthed smile
005
The tray on the table is the chalkboard from the kitchen but I am using it as a tray now. lol
006
This is a burlap bubble wreath I made last month. LOVE it!
007
This table I ordered unfinished from Linens N Things and finished on my own last month. It fits perfectly in the center of the room! I painted the bottom white and stained the top Jacobean from Minwax.
008
And because I am not crazy and I do have white furniture and 6 year old twin boys I bought them their very own chairs. lol They can move them around where ever they want to have to them watch TV or play games. They work out perfectly!
This room still has artwork to be finished and I am saving up for the Ektorp chairs and the Adeline rug-multi from Pottery Barn shown here:

Now for the library. Here it is in it’s current state.

Again messy, real life is not picture perfect people. lol The two Jennylund chairs from the family room will come back in here and go on the wall with the mirror. The shelf will be centered on the far wall and I will get the artwork back on the walls. I am still loving my striped painted curtains and I have washed them a couple of times with no ill affects! I will also need a rug for this room but haven’t quite decided what I want yet.
Well that’s all the updating for now. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

PB Kids dino art knock off

In May Marisa will be leaving for Navy Basic training which means Jessica will be moving into Marisa's suite in the basement. Edward and Ethan have requested separate rooms. We have an extra room and offered them their own rooms when we moved in this house but they weren't ready for that yet. Now they are. Right now the extra room is being used by a guest but once our guest has moved on it will once again go back to being my sewing/craft area. Not like it was before but close.

On to my point...The boys are splitting up and in need of room make overs. They are both really into dinosaurs right now so that's our theme. I started my search for stuff I could make for their room and came across this cute as can be knock off from Girl in Air. I just LOVE her stuff! (And this is not the only thing I copied from her-lol!). So here is my version of her PB Kids dino art knockoff. Each boy chose his colors. I used 24 inch square plywood pieces I already had, painted them off white, distressed with watered down brown paint then scored the wood to makes it look like separate boards. Then I cut the dinosaurs out of drop clothe I had in my stash painted them (it too a lot of paint!) and added black felt dots. I glued them to the board with spray adhesive and Edward added hangers to the back. The only thing I had to actually buy for this project was the hangers and they were like $2. That's it. For 2 pieces of art! :D

They are ready to go as soon as Marisa moves out and we get the rooms painted and moved around. I will be showing you more stuff for their room as I get it done and we get closer to actually moving everything around.

Have a great day!

Dino hoodies

My boys are really into dinosaurs right now. When I saw these dino hoodies at vixen made, The Sasse Life  and Oh! Crafts I knew I had to make them for the twins. Of course the older kids wanted them as well. I ended up making 5 total! lol You can find the tut I used at The Sasse Life.

Have a great day!
